longevity supplements are expensive
A lot of people have commented on my YouTube Channel saying how expensive this longevity game is, but no hard numbers, so I thought I would set them all out to see what it would cost you to take David Sinclair’s supplements for a month, a year and a day.
david sinclair’s supplements
As most people do have access to Amazon.com, I will use them as the marketplace, and I will go for the cheapest products that fit David Sinclair’s supplement stack as recorded in his book. Although there a few thing to consider if you are going to buy NMN from Amazon.
I will only cover what he says he actually states in his book, there are a number of other Blogs that say or assume he takes other things, but I am going to stick with only what he has written in his book. Also, I know this may not be popular, but I am not going to mention the brand names of any of the products; I don’t want people to think because I mention a certain brand, I am in any way recommending that brand, I don’t recommend any brand. I will tell you what I take, but I will not tell you what to take.
nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN)
NMN is used to raise NAD levels, this and resveratrol is what David Sinclair is best known for:
Food grade capsules:
- 30 x 250 mg capsules = $19.94
- Cost per month = $79.76 to get 1 gram a day
- Cost per year = $957.12
trans-resveratrol
Famous for being found in grapes and also red wine, it has lengthened lifespan in certain animals, it may increase insulin sensitivity, it may ease joint pain and according to David Sinclair it is the accelerator pedal for NMN:
Trans-resveratrol powder:
- 60 grams = $14.99
- Cost per month = $7.49
- Cost per year = $89.94
high fat food
High fat food is essential for maximum absorption of trans-resveratrol, David Sinclair uses homemade organic yogurt:
Whole milk yogurt
- 907 grams = $6.95 (1 cup is about 114 grams: 8 cups)
- Cost per month = $26.01
- Cost per year = $312.12
metformin
David Sinclair takes metformin, unfortunately in many countries Metformin is a prescription drug, those that can’t get it can use Berberine instead, so that is what I have costed:
Berberine food grade capsules:
- 120 x 125 mg capsules = $24.68
- Cost per month = $6.17
- Cost per year = $74.04
vitamins
Vitamin D regulates calcium and maintenance of phosphorus levels in the blood. These factors are vital for maintaining healthy bones. Vitamin D allows the intestines to stimulate and absorb calcium and reclaim calcium that the kidneys would otherwise excrete, David Sinclair takes vitamin D every day:
Vitamin D3/K2 food grade capsules:
- 60 x (Vit D3 @5000 International Units (IU))
- (K2 @100 micrograms) capsules = $19.95
- Cost per month = $9.97
- Cost per year = $119.70
Why Vitamin K2? K2 ensures that the calcium goes to our bones and teeth and not our soft tissue like our kidneys.
aspirin
As well as a cure for headaches, it is also an anti-inflammatory drug that can be used as a blood thinner. People with a high risk of blood clots, stroke and heart attack can use aspirin long-term in low doses.
David Sinclair takes 83 milligrams a day; I could only find 81 milligrams for sale on Amazon, it seems close enough to me:
Low dose aspirin tablets:
- 365 tablets (2 pack, so 730 a two-year supply) = $19.95
- Cost per month = $0.60
- Cost per year = $7.20
trimethylglycine (TMG)
On my YouTube channel many people have warned me about methylation, sent me links to videos by Chris Masterjohn and also some have mentioned that David Sinclair takes some form of TMG. This is a direct quote from his book Lifespan (page 305).
‘This makes sense-the “N” in NR and NMN stands for nicotinamide, a version of vitamin B, that the body methylates and excretes in urine when it is in excess, potentially depleting cells of methyls-but this remains a theory.’
So, I won’t include TMG in the pricing.
total costs
The monthly, yearly and daily costs are below:
Monthly $130.18
Yearly: $1562.16
Daily: $4.27
If these supplements really can help, is works out at just over $4, is that too much to pay? Bear in mind that the average cost of a Caffe Latte (Venti) in New York is $5.44
conclusion
On my YouTube Channel many people have said how expensive this longevity game is, but there are no hard numbers mentioned.
Although the cost of the complete stack does look expensive, when it is broken down by month ad by day, the numbers don’t seem too large, especially when measured against the good they have the potential of doing; more poignant when measured against the cost of other common extravagances such as smoking and drinking alcohol.
Unfortunately, I had to close comments on the Blog because of spammers, more than fifty a day! If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section of this video.
